Anja Pärson: Ski Champion of Sweden

Performance  /  09 December 2015

Anja Pärson is considered the queen of Swedish skiing, and Are, where she won three World Cup races is linked to some of the best moments of her great career.

Anja is a national hero with 6 medals at the Olympic Games and 13 medals in the World Championships. She has always loved the slopes of Are, as in her opinion they are the best in the world both for a professional and an amateur skier.

Pärson’s athletics club in Fjällvinden, Tärnaby, is the same club to which other ski legends Ingemar Stenmark and Stig Strand also were a part of. After living in Monaco for several years during her sports career, Anja returned to Sweden in 2012 and now she lives in Umeå. In June 2012 Pärson announced on the Swedish radio program Sommar that she has been in a relationship with a woman for the past five years, and that they were expecting a child together. Their son, Elvis, was born on the 4th of July 2012.
On the 2nd of August 2014, Anja Pärson and her long-time partner Filippa Rådin married and former Swedish Social Democratic Party leader Mona Sahlin officiated at the wedding.

Anja Pärson is a real champion that will be remembered not only for her two World Cups and the other medals but as an icon away from the slopes.
