From the victory of the queen of speed Lindsey Vonn to the success of Lara Gut in the Super G Garmisch witnessed some thrilling racing but now the ladies are heading to the next stage in Italy.
The great Lindsey Vonn had an exciting return on the podium: last Saturday, she dominated the Kandahar slope in the Downhill. After dealing with two injuries last season – one to the left knee and a fracture in the right humerus – Lindsey Vonn got back on track more determined than ever, and in Garmisch she won surpassing the Swiss Lara Gut and the German Viktoria Rebensburg.
Lara Gut, regained first position the following day, triumphing in the Super G ahead of Stephanie Venier and Tina Weirather, and gaining first place for the third time in this discipline. This further victory brings Gut to closer to the leader Mikaela Shiffrin in the overall standings of the Ski World Cup.
After a brief stop in Kronplatz, the ladies World Cup travels back to Italy and will arrive in Cortina D’Ampezzo to compete in another series of Downhill and Super G events. The races on, January 28th and 29th, represent the last chance to participate in the St. Moritz World Cup next February.
Meanwhile Cortina, official host of the 2021 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships is ready to welcome athletes and visitors with a program rich of events, beginning with the ceremonies of the bib draw and athletes’ awards, to the presentation of the Cortina 2021 logo and the launch of the Italian national team race suits.
