Sport  /  20 March 2017

The season 2016/17 Alpine Ski World Cup ended last week in Aspen, USA. The finals have declared the winners of each discipline and confirmed the title of champion in the overall standings for both the men’s and ladies’ teams. Here are all the athletes who won the coveted Crystal Globes:

The champions of the Ski World Cup

As expected, thanks to an unbeatable score accumulated during the season, the winners of this World Cup have been Michaela Shiffrin and Marcel Hirscher. For the Slalom queen, Shiffrin, at only 22 years old this is her first time she has had the title of World Cup’s champion. By comparison Hirscher, reached a milestone in the history of the Alpine Skiing, by winning his sixth consecutive World Cup.

The winners of the speed disciplines

The titles of the Downhill events went down to the wire with the winner being decided at the Aspen races: Ilka Stuhec, thanks to her fourth victory in this discipline, won the first globe of her career. In the men’s team, Peter Fill won the first place in the standings. As for the Super G, the ladies winner was Tina Weirather and on the men’s front, Kjetil Jansrud finished first in the standings.

The winners of technical disciplines

The globe for the Giant Slalom for the ladies went down to the final race, which saw the victory of Tessa Worley. The winner in the male discipline was Marcel Hirscher, who overcame Alexis Pinturault, his main rival in the standings, after the latter’s injury. The Special Slalom has been won by the two champions of the World Cup: Michela Shiffrin and, once again, by Marcel Hirscher.

Alpine Combined and Nations’ Cup

Although there was no race in this discipline in Aspen, two athletes with the best score of both teams were rewarded for Alpine Combined: Ilka Stuhec and Alexis Pinturault. As happens every year, the Nations Cup was set, and for the first time ever, Italy finished on top of the female category. On the male side, the trophy was won by Austria.
