The FIS Alpine Ski World Cup is almost coming to an end and being the official sponsor of 9 races, as well as the U.S. ski team, we’ve well and truly soaked up all of the skiing atmosphere – and the après ski tradition of spending snowy evenings in a hot tub!
As part of our ‘Jacuzzi Meets’ series, we caught up with another ski star from the UK, U21 Alpine skier Ashley Breese, to see why he started this incredible sport, what he loves about skiing and his goals for 2016…
Hey Ashley! What age did you start skiing?
I started skiing when I was 3 years old at the Telford Dry Slop and then I started racing at the age of 8 years old, but only on the dry slopes around GB. From this, I then progressed onto races abroad in the Alps.
What do you most enjoy about skiing?
The best thing about skiing for me is that it’s such a challenging sport. I love the adrenaline rush from the speed.
What made you want to join the U21 Alpine squad?
I wanted to join the team because I have always wanted to represent my country. I’m so motivated and by being in the GB team, it shows that I am one of the best in the country.
What are your short and long time goals?
My short team goal is to gradually improve my world rankings and longer term I’d love to compete in the World Cup circuit and the Olympics.
How do you like to relax after a day of skiing?
I like to get straight into bed and watch a movie.
We know it’s a tradition to jump in a hot tub after a long day skiing, do you often unwind in a tub after hitting the slopes?
The place where I train doesn’t have a hot tub, which is unfortunate as there are so many benefits of soaking in hot tub after training! If I ever do come across one, I’d be the first one in it, as it’s great for relaxing muscles after a long day ski training, especially for the day after as it would really prevent my muscles from getting stiff and sore.
What is the best moment of the race for you?
The best moment is coming through the finish line knowing you have done the best you could.
What is your greatest achievement to date?
I haven’t been able to race in the last two seasons due to a knee injury, but during my younger years of racing and first few years of the juniors, I won many national titles.
How do you recover after a race?
I will either go for a jog or a spin session on the bikes, and it’s really important to do a good stretch!
What’s your ideal day away?
My ideal day away would be chilling on a beach somewhere with my friends playing some Frisbee.
What’s on your bucket list?
To travel the entire world!
Who is your hero?
Felix Neureuther – German Team, Alpine Ski Racer.
Finally, we have to end with this… Who would you like to share a hot tub with?
That would have to be Lara Gut!
