Our Weekend In Cortina d’Ampezzo

Performance  /  25 January 2016

Wow, what a fantastic weekend we’ve just had in Cortina d’Ampezzo, full of fantastic racing, records made, a few tumbles and the world cup now has a new leader.

Following dominant form in Friday’s training run, on Saturday Lindsey Vonn surpassed Anne-Marie Moser-Proell’s record for the most world cup downhill wins. Vonn’s time of 1:37.01 minutes was also just enough to place her at the top of the podium with Larisa Yurkiw second (+0.28 seconds) and Lara Gut in third (+0.67 seconds).

Lindsey Vonn’s dominance didn’t end on Saturday either as Sunday saw her claim victory in the Super-G by a margin of 0.69 seconds over Tina Weirather and a full 1.15 seconds over third placed Viktoria Rebensburg.

The victories at Cortina have seen Lindsey Vonn move to the top of the world cup leader board from previous leader Lara Gut of Switzerland by a margin of 45 points and third is Frida Hansdotter of Sweden with 239 points of the pace.

After the exhilarating racing and the beauty of Cortina d’Ampezzo, we can’t wait for the next event in the resort of Crans Montana in Switzerland. With home advantage, could Lara Gut fight her way back to the top of the leader board? It’s all to play for right now!
