Cortina is not only one of the most beautiful mountain resorts in the world, but also a trendy location for shopping and a favourite destination for those who enjoy the jet set lifestyle. Of course, it is also the location of one of the most exciting and difficult ski courses of the entire FIS Alpine World Cup. Since 1993, this track, which also hosted the men’s downhill event in the 1956 Winter Olympic (won by Toni Sailer), has become a permanent home to the fast races of the female World Cup.

Renate Götschl is the most successful sportswoman in the history of the legendary Olimpia delle Tofane course at Cortina d’Ampezzo. The “Pearl of the Dolomites” has held a total of 31 downhill races and 28 super-G races for the FIS Alpine World Cup and some of the greatest ski champions have won here in recent years. However, the absolute queen remains Renate Götschl who has taken to the podium 22 times and triumphed on 10 occasions: 5 in downhill (one more than Isolde Kostner) and 5 in the Super G. Renate Götschl has 1 more Super G victory than Lindsey Vonn who has 4 consecutive victories here, plus a further 3 victories in the downhill. That’s some stiff competition there!
