Performance  /  01 December 2016

The 51st edition of the Ski World Cup has started once again this year with the Giant Slalom, with both male and female events at the Rettenbach glacier above Sölden in Austria between the 21st and 23rd of October 21.

Sölden is located amidst the beautiful Alps of the high Oetztal, Austria, at an altitude of 1,368 meters. In the summer this locality attracts athletes and enthusiasts from across the world thanks to its 300 km of hiking trails, providing a wide choice for any level of athletic preparation. It is also a favorite destination by bike fans, with its many mountain bike trails, paths for sprinters and cycling routes for families. But it is winter that Sölden gives its best: the ski resort on the Rettenbach glacier unfolds in 144 kilometres of ski runs, served by modern lift systems that allow you to reach the viewing platforms set up on the tops of the Big 3, each high over 3000 metres.

In this ski paradise, the 2017 Ski World Cup kicked off on Saturday October 22nd with the first ladies Giant Slalom of the season. The winner was the Swiss Lara Gut, the 2016 World Cup champion, followed by the American Mikaela Shiffrin and the young Italian Marta Bassino, ranked third. Sunday, was the turn of the men to make a spectacle; competing in the Giant Slalom. On the podium Alexis Pinturault of France in first position, followed by the Austrian Marcel Hirscher and the German Felix Neureuther.

The next round will take place on November the 12th and 13th in Levi, Finland, with the first mens and ladies Special Slalom of the season.

Meanwhile, for those who are still in Sölden, or who plan to spend a sporty weekend in the middle of the mountains, we suggest to visit one of the many spa resorts that dot around the Austrian Alps, often equipped with indoor heated swimming pools, relaxation zones, hydromassage and chromotherapy. Releasing the muscle tension and treating yourself a few hours of pampering after a day of outdoor sport, not only is it a pleasure for the senses, but it will help your recovery from your sporting adventures.
