Cortina, the movie star

Events  /  14 January 2016

Cortina d’Ampezzo and Jacuzzi have both appeared in many famous movies. Over one hundred films have been shot in this charming Italian village: love stories, Italian comedies, war movies and thrillers.

Erich von Stroheim chose Cortina as the location of his first movie, 1918’s ”The legend of the mountain”, but he had to rebuild the location in an overseas studio. Leni Riefensthal also debuted as a director at the Monte Cristallo with “Das Blaue Licht”.

In 1962 “The Pink Panther” by Blake Edwards with Peter Sellers as the legendary inspector was also shot in Cortina d’Ampezzo.

In the 70’s, it’s slopes were also the scenery of the 007 saga in ”For Your Eyes Only” with Roger Moore as James Bond.

During the 80’s and 90’s Carlo and Enrico Vanzina shot the the Italian comedy ‘Vacanze di Natale’ and its sequels. In 1993 Sylvester Stallone came to Cortina to film “Cliffhanger”, where he acted as a mountain guide.

If you’re planning on coming to see the Ski World Cup event at Cortina d’Ampezzo, make sure you watch out for all these familiar scenes!
