Jacuzzi meets… Alpine Skier Max Baggio

Performance  /  11 December 2015

We’re getting into all of the skiing action this year at Jacuzzi!  As well as being the official sponsor of the U.S. Ski Team for the FIS Ski World Cup, we have been getting to know our UK Alpine Ski Team a bit better too.

First up, we grabbed U21 British Alpine skier Max Baggio for a quick chat to discuss his love for the sport, what it’s like to be a ski champion and who he’d like to share a Jacuzzi with…

Hi Max!

Tell us, you’re already such an accomplished skier but what made you first hit the slopes?  How old were you?

I started skiing when I was 4 years old, I went on a family holiday and loved the sport.  I then started ski racing when I was 9 and progressed from there by attending Hemel Ski Centre as well as competing in races abroad.

What’s the best thing about skiing?

My favourite thing about skiing is the freedom of the sport; the fact you can dictate what you do and create your own unique style and technique.

What made you want to join the U21 Alpine squad?

I wanted to join the team, as it is a great honour for me to represent my country.  It’s a privilege to compete with skiers who are at the same level as me and it really motivates me to do well.

What is your main goal?  Where do you see yourself taking your talent?

My goal is to progress further in the sport, of course.  I would love to compete with the best of the best in the world. It would be awesome to race at the Olympics.

How do you like to relax after a day of skiing?

I relax by totally chilling out and switching off.  I actually enjoy taking power naps during the day (got to grab sleep where you can!) and socialising with my mates.

What is the best moment of the race for you?

The best moment is when you know you’ve done a good run, it flowed and was enjoyable. It’s a great feeling when you get to the finish line and you’ve done the best you could and performed well.

What’s your greatest achievement to date?

I am currently the British Overall Alpine Ski Champion 2015.  I’ve also competed in the World Junior Championships 2015 and I was a flag bearer at the Youth Olympic Games in 2013.

How do you recover after a race?

After a race, I like to do a recovery spin and stretch.  I spend the majority of the time relaxing and fuelling up for the next day.  Lots of food and naps!

We may roll out our muscles on a foam roller too in order to target specific muscle groups.

What’s your ideal day away?

It could be anywhere as long as I’m having fun with my friends and family.

What is at the top of your bucket list?

I would love to go skydiving at some point. I’m a real thrill seeker!

Do you often unwind in a hot tub after skiing? If so, do you find it benefits your recovery?

I really enjoy unwinding in a hot tub after a ski session, but I don’t get to do this as much as I would like to. However, when I do use hot tubs after exercise, I do find they soothe my muscles and I find it relaxes me psychologically too.

Who is your hero?

New Zealand rugby player, Sonny Bill Williams.

And finally, we have to ask:  who would you like to share a hot tub with?

Definitely Mila Kunis!
