Jacuzzi kicks off as official event sponsor of 10 races at the 2017 FIS Ski World Cup with action-packed races at Levi, Finland

Performance  /  16 November 2016

Our sponsorship as the official partner of 10 FIS Ski World Cup races kicked off with a weekend of action packed races at Levi, Finland.

USA’s Mikaela Shiffrin dominated her favourite discipline by bagging Team USA 100 points, coming out top of the Ladies’ slalom race. The Olympic and world champion held her nerve following her opening-run lead to win the first women’s World Cup slalom of the season on Saturday. With two-runs, she finished with an impressive combined time of 1 minute, 52.71 seconds, 0.67 ahead of Switzerland’s Wendy Holdener.

Although the win was unsurprising, having won all nine slaloms that she has competed in since February 2015, Shiffrin’s performance was entertaining to say the least! Her victory in the frozen north of Finland earned Shiffrin a rather unusual prize of a reindeer no less!

The weekend also saw a dramatic run from the men’s Austrian team, who placed first and second, dominating the podium for Sunday’s slalom race. First place on the podium was snatched by Austria’s Marcel Hirscher, with team mate Michael Matt in a dramatic close second and Manfred Moelgg from Italy in third. Britain’s Dave Ryding pulled out a stunning run, recording a national best for 15 years and finishing in a career-best position of 6th.

With the races set 110 miles north of the Arctic Circle, the temperature was as low as the conditions were tricky. After the second run of the day, the strain on the athletes was evident. As official event sponsors, Jacuzzi® was on-hand with their renowned hot tubs, which have over the past 60 years become synonymous with recovery and hydromassage. Serving as an essential part of athletes’ day-to-day recovery, especially in the colder months, the tubs were extremely well received by the skiers.

You don’t have to be an athlete tackling some of the most gruelling ski slopes on earth to benefit from hot tub bathing in the winter however – we’ll be sharing some of our winter wellness tips and also offering you the chance to win some amazing prizes throughout Ski Season!
