Olimpia delle Tofane

Performance  /  20 January 2016

The Olimpia delle Tofane course in Cortina hosts one of the most exciting races of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup.

The track alternates fast and slower sections and all the curves are different: this is one of the few courses where the sun takes you from the start to the finish line with very few stretches of shadow, a feature that athletes appreciate very much, especially those with a low friction style.

The start is located in a charming place at the foot of the Tofane which offers an exceptional view. The first few corners are very fast and athletes have to be very careful because there because it’s easy to lose a lot of time in this area.

20 seconds into the race there’s a sharp bend to the left that leads to perhaps the most spectacular and impressive part: the famous Tofane Schuss. This is a dive where speed can reach 130 Km/h and after the jump of the Duke of Aosta with the blind entrance, skiers fly for about 40 metres.

After the jump, the Stratofana begins with a series of very demanding curves. The last stretch appears easier but still has many pitfalls. The long bend to the right often determines the winner of this exhilarating race.

Who will triumph this year? Watch to find out!
